Detroit is finally getting a new area code

Detroit is finally getting a new area code: the 679 overlay. This will cover the same area as the 313.

But it’s not just an overlay that is changing, starting October 7, you’ll have to dial ALL 10 digits, no more 7-digit dialing for Detroit.
